Facebook : Connecting People [part 2]

In my previous post, I might have not been clear enough or probably too timid to really voice out my concern to the issue. Because I fear that I might be bombed with hate comments or whatever. But this time around, let me be frank.

I feel like Facebook have really lost it's purpose of connecting people. Again, I'm not saying it doesn't work. I just feel like it's more of a bonus nowadays.

Take a look around your news feed. What do you see? It may be just me, or it may be just for some people. But what I see are some individual, showcasing their lives. What they've eaten, what they have done, what are they doing, what are they thinking, what are their comments on a certain political/non-political issue, their day-to-day updates, etc.

I thought that Facebook goes beyond that. I thought that Facebook relish the idea of real human connection. Bringing people together. Chatting and sharing thoughts on their mutual interest. True, you can see it in certain shared posts. But if you looked carefully at those comments and read them one by one, does it really seem that everyone is connecting? All I can see is each and everyone trying to get their thoughts published. Funny way of thinking it though. Hahahaha.

Does 'selfies' and 'foodporn' really connects people? Does Facebook-venting and telling everyone about your frustration helps you connect to another people? Or does playing those games on Facebook really help you make more friends? I hardly believed that is the case.

Though, being an antisocial really puts you in a different perspective on how Facebook have come these past few years. Well.... I guess I'm not making any sense any more. But here's my question.

Was Mark's vision when he created 'Facebook' is the same as what was said during 'The Social Network' when Jesse Eisenberg was playing the role of Mark himself?

"Mark Zuckerberg: People want to go online and check out their friends, so why not build a website that offers that? Friends, pictures, profiles, whatever you can visit, browse around, maybe it's someone you just met at a party. Eduardo, I'm not talking about a dating site, I'm talking about taking the entire social experience of college and putting it online."

If it is so, then I rest my case. As it states in the above, all of my ranting would be just.... another rant. But if it wasn't, then my question remains.

Facebook : Connecting People

My recent tweet got me thinking, if Facebook were really created as means to connect with other people, why does it feel like Facebook is really just another tool to showcase our life for other people to see and comment, not really connecting? This may come as an antisocial comment to you all but think about it.

Sayonara, 2013! Irrasshaimasen, 2014!

It's "Bye-bye, 2013" and "Hello & Welcome, 2014" time. I bet all of you are dying to 'expect' what 2014 have in stores for you. But before we get on to the whole "I'm gonna do better this year!", "I'm gonna work harder!", "I'm going to study smarter!" and all of the other cliches, let's take time to reflect upon the year that have passed.

Claire Morgan: As you all can see the ball has stopped half way to its porch. It's suspended there to remind us before we pop the champagne and celebrate the New Year, to stop and reflect on the year that has gone by. To remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken. The times we opened ourselves up to great adventures or close ourself down for fear of getting hurt. Cause that's what New Year's is all about, getting another chance. The chance to forgive, to do better, to do more, to give more, to love more. And stop worrying about what if and start embracing what will be. So when that ball drops at midnight, and it will drop, let's remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other. And not just tonight, but all year long. Thank you.

Santa Claus : A Christmas Wonder

Xmas comes again merrily this year. By now, everywhere around Malaysia, particularly in the city of miscreants and misfits, Kuala Lumpur, Christmas is welcomed jubilantly with bright red and greens encompassing of twinkling lights and decorations. I need not delve into what kind of decorations there are since it's an extraneous task listing down or mentioning about. But this time I would like you all to lend me your cognitive processor and bear with my "why" questions about the jolly old men in red himself.

So what the fuck is with all these people complaining?

Ramadhan Fasting : Tips?!

Wash your faces dear Muslim friends! I know that we are in our fasting month and most of you already looking like some kind of wilted veggies! I may not be able to see you or be psychic enough to tell, but I know you all are. The exhaustion, the chapped lips, the lifeless skin, the dry voice, and so on (I could go on, but that would depresses me too..).

Ramadhan : Abstaining Speeches

It's time to repent, make tons of good deeds and pray to the Almighty Allah S.W.T. for forgiveness and a place in his heavenly afterlife. Yup, as you all know, yesterday mark the first day of Ramadhan, a month of fasting and repentance. I shall not divulge in what Ramadhan entails of, read it up on the internet, tons of reading material or just watch some tele, they are bound to be a lot of commercial or programme that talks about it. Don't be a lazy bum and learn a little.

But today I want to nag about the restraints and constraints that we are supposed to adhere during this holy month. As Muslim everywhere knows, syaiton nir rojim and all of his minions and underlings are locked away, relieving us from all the bad temptations and negligence that has been corrupting us the whole year (following the Islamic calendar) up to this month. They are cast away so that we, as our pure self can act and make a decision about our life without that spiritual influence.  This is the month where Muslim are given a chance to make as many good deeds as they can. Not saying that they can't before but whatever good they do (in Allah's name) during this month, the rewards we got are doubled or tripled or even more (I'm not quite sure how much is it, actually, Wallahuallam). So, we must do our best to make full use of this hallowed month.

Restriction to Freedom of Speech

If you read my previous post on the price of 'freedom of speech', you can tell that, as much as I love the human rights to express our opinions and ideas to the masses; no matter how dumb it may be, there is a price for that 'belief'. Everything in this world has a chain reaction to it. It is the karma way of the universe. Good is re-compensated with good future, and bad... you know the drill. But this time around, I'd like to poke around the 'freedom of speech' innuendo in our country.

The Price for Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech, or free speech as you may call it is the political rights for express one's opinion and ideas using any sorts of medium to whoever is willing to receive it. I have no need to explain further about what freedom of speech all about since you can find it yourself in the first amendment. Just Google it. It's all over the place. That's what the internet are for, (not just for surfing the net, social networks, gaming, and porn). In these days, freedom of speech is being used far too widely and vaguely. Why do I say that? Look at the image here. The spectacles over the the word 'freedom of speech' itself is self-explanatory.

Okay, let's just generalize that you might be too blunt to even understand the symbolism here. Yes, I do believe that freedom of speech is probably one of the best thing that the human mind can come up with to counter arguments, express dissatisfaction, overrule restrictions and what-not. But look at the image. Why the spectacles? Because how many of you out there that really understand the concept of 'freedom of speech'? 

Saving up for the Future
